Tax-smart giving can help you maximize your impact for disABILITYsa while also making the most of available tax benefits. Thoughtful strategies like these can lower your tax burden and stretch your giving dollars further in support of disability inclusion in San Antonio.
- Gifts of appreciated stock or mutual funds Donating long‑term appreciated stock or mutual fund shares directly to disABILITYsa allows you to support disability inclusion using assets that have grown in value. Instead of selling the investment and paying capital gains tax, you can transfer the shares to the nonprofit and generally deduct the fair market value if you itemize, subject to IRS limits. This approach may reduce your overall tax bill while increasing the impact of your gift for programs in the San Antonio community.
- Create or add to a donor-advised fund (DAF) With a DAF, you make a contribution to a sponsoring organization, may receive an immediate charitable tax deduction if you itemize, and then recommend grants to disABILITYsa and other nonprofits over time. This can be especially helpful in high-income years or when you want to “bunch” several years of giving into one tax year while continuing to support disability inclusion in San Antonio on a regular schedule. DAFs are a flexible way to support disABILITYsa while organizing your charitable giving for the long term.
- Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from IRAs If you are at least 70½, you may be able to make a Qualified Charitable Distribution from a traditional IRA directly to disABILITYsa. A QCD can count toward your required minimum distribution (RMD) but is typically excluded from your taxable income, which can be especially helpful if you do not itemize deductions. By giving directly from your IRA, you can turn a mandatory withdrawal into meaningful support for disability-focused advancements, programs, and services.
