AGING IN SAN ANTONIO TOWN HALL

disABILITYsa is an active partner in the Successfully Aging & Living (SALSA) Collective Impact at the San Antonio Area Foundation. SALSA and the City of San Antonio are working together to make San Antonio a great place to age. They are hosting a virtual town hall to listen to older adults (60+) in order to better understand the realities, opportunities, and challenges that shape everyday life.

FIESTA ESPECIAL ROYAL COURT
LEADERSHIP & LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM: NOW ENROLLING 

Enrollment is now open through August 21 for the Fiesta Especial Royal Court Leadership and Life Skills Development Program, a one-of-a-kind opportunity for individuals with disabilities to build confidence, develop leadership skills, and engage meaningfully in their community. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and personal growth opportunities, participants gain valuable skills that extend far beyond the program—empowering them to lead, connect, and thrive.

There are so many ways to be part of the 20th Annual Celebration of AccessAbility fest this October, whether you attend the festival and/or conference, sponsor, exhibit, or volunteer. This milestone event brings our community together to celebrate inclusion, showcase resources, and create meaningful connections, and every role plays a part in making it a success. CONVERSATION 360: VOTING+ & DISABILITY
SEPTEMBER 10th, 2026 | 5:30 - 8:00 PM

Voting in elections is one of the most important ways we can shape our community, but your voice has power to make change all the time, not only during elections. Civic engagement ranges from volunteering on committees to voting in elections to participating in rallies and marches. Barriers to meaningful civic engagement create social, health, and economic disparities for people with disabilities, but we can work together to remove barriers and get involved.  

This conversation creates a space to share experiences, discuss challenges, learn about resources, and  explore the many ways that we have power to shape our community– through voting, writing our representatives, serving on boards and committees, and getting involved in civic action. Join us to discuss making change through casting your vote and sharing your voice.

Through surveys, advisory panels, leadership initiatives, and civic engagement opportunities, you can actively contribute to shaping policies, programs, and awareness efforts that advance equity and inclusion for the disability community. Disability-lived Experience Panel: Share your disability lived experience to help shape a more inclusive San Antonio! Join disABILITYsa’s Lived Experience Panel to provide real feedback on accessibility, planning, and training when organizations seek community insight. Your voice matters—it helps create a city where everyone belongs.

​Improving Healthcare Survey: Brief survey for people who are blind or have low vision to better understand these barriers and identify what helps or hinders navigation in newly constructed healthcare environments. 

​Housing Focus Group: Join disABILITYsa for a Conversation 360: Housing & Disability, a community dialogue designed to amplify the voices of people with disabilities and our support networks. Using the City of San Antonio’s Special Housing Supply “Meeting in a Box” tools, this conversation will create space to name real barriers to accessible, affordable housing, explore what is (and isn’t) working, and surface concrete ideas the City can use as it updates long‑term housing plans.  [Sessions are available with both in-person and virtual options throughout the day. ASL will be provided at one or two of the afternoon sessions, but we are still in the process of confirming interpreters.]

​Housing Survey: The City of San Antonio is gathering information about barriers different people face when looking for affordable housing that meets their needs. As we approach the halfway point of the ten-year plan for affordable housing (SHIP), COSA wants to know how to better meet San Antonio resident's needs. Survey Closes Dec 22nd.

The Service & Leadership (SLP) helps individuals to identify opportunities for leadership and service to the San Antonio community.  disABILITYsa provides training for both people living with disabilities and others in the community who are interested in advancing disability considerations by engaging in volunteerism, service on nonprofit boards, and participation in strategic conversations about the future the San Antonio community.  This program specifically works on providing the tools, resources, and connections for participants to amplify the voices of the disability community as a whole.

disABILITYsa is working to collect the stories of those living with a disability within the San Antonio community.  Sharing stories and experiences will help keep the voices of San Antonians with disabilities part of the future planning discussions.

JOIN THE PARTNERSHIP TODAY!
The disability vote includes people living with a disability, family members and friends, advocates, educators, professionals, providers, bureaucrats, and supporters. The disability community has a major stake in the outcome of this election. Issues important to people with disabilities must be part of the platform for any candidate running for public office, be it a City Council position or for Mayor.

The disability service providers, leaders, retailers, and groups of San Antonio are invited to join in a collective effort around The Disability Vote in San Antonio.

Our efforts will be focused on: 
  1. Getting topics of interest for people with disabilities into the candidate debates and forums for the upcoming May election. 
  2. Get out the Vote! Ensuring those living with disabilities are registered to vote and understand how to exercise their voice in the election process. 
  3. Break down barriers that continue to prevent individuals with disabilities from actively participating in the election process.
