MAKING SAN ANTONIO Vax-ability STRONG
Challenges to increasing vaccination rates among the disability community can be attributed to both concerns about the vaccine as well as accessibility to successfully received the vaccine. Even if people with disabilities are eager to receive the vaccine, the normal barriers they face to healthcare service due to inaccessible building, transportation, or lack of effective communications pose the same challenges to vaccine access.
Making information available in plain language an in accessible formats (such as for people with vision, hearing, or cognitive disabilities) can help ensure that it is useful to people with disabilities. Accessible information about where and when to access the vaccine will be important, especially as state prioritization plans continue to evolve, and many people with disabilities are eager to receive the vaccine given their increased risk.
Through the Vax-ability STRONG program we are removing these barriers, meeting the disability community where they are, addressing their concerns, and ensuring they have the information and access they need to stay healthy and strong during these challenging times.
