Join Eva's Heroes and Santikos Theatres for a special showing of Hollywood's latest family friendly film in a sensory friendly and accepting environment.

Doors open at 5:30pm and movie begins at 6pm. Eva's Heroes Special Presentations will be held at Santikos Silverado 16 located at Bandera Rd and 1604 and at Santikos Embassy 14 located at 281 and Bitters Rd. Eva's Heroes Special Presentations are held every 1st and 3rd Tuesday

Please share with any individuals or families who would benefit. This is an activity open to individuals of all ages with intellectual special needs.

As always, individuals with intellectual special needs receive free admission. Attending parents, friends, sibling, caregivers, and general public pay going matinee rate for the theater they attend.

La intención de este taller es proporcionar a los padres los conocimientos relativos a las actividades que tienen lugar durante el proceso de educación especial, así como de sus derechos procesales y responsabilidades. Vamos a discutir el proceso de ARD para que los padres estén dispuestos a participar en todas las etapas del proceso. Vamos a cubrir ocho (8) actividades que utilizamos para diseñar la instrucción y determinar la colocación para satisfacer las necesidades únicas de los estudiantes con discapacidad en el Estado de Texas.

Este taller está diseñado para proveer a los padres con el conocimiento práctico de trabajo de los contenidos de un IEP viable, útil según la definición de IDEA. A través del proceso de escritura de un IEP, vamos a aprender a establecer metas de aprendizajes razonables y medibles para un niño con una discapacidad, y proporcionar los servicios individualizados que el distrito escolar proporcionará para ese niño.

What is ABA? Introduction to Applied Behavior Analysis for Children with Autism will inform caregivers about Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), which is considered a best practice treatment for children with autism. Caregivers will learn about basics of ABA as well as therapies based on ABA principles.

This course is one of the Caregiver Workshops offered at the Autism Community Network. ACN offers a variety of workshops for caregivers of children with autism. All workshops are held at the ACN offices at 701 S. Zarzamora and run from 8:30 am to 11:30 am or 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Cost: $15 per person ($5 with Medicaid)

Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorder will provide basic information on autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). Participants will learn about (a) the red flags for ASD; (b) screening for ASD; (c) diagnosis of ASD including diagnostic criteria and how and who diagnoses ASD; (d) prevalence of ASD; (e) prognosis for ASD; (f) risk factors for ASD; and (g) possible causes of ASD.

This course is part of the ACN Professional Training Series. All workshops are held at Autism Community Network, 701 S. Zarzamora, and run from 8:30 am to 11:30 am or 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Cost: $35/person/workshop; $60/person for two workshops on the same day

In Teaching Daily Living Skills to Children with Autism, participants will learn (a) to assess the needs of their child/student in the area of daily living skills; (b) break down skills into small, teachable steps; and (c) implement effective teaching strategies.

Treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder will provide a general overview on treatments for people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), with a focus on evidence based practices. Participants will learn about (a) what applied behavior analysis (ABA) is; (b) different applications of ABA to ASD; (c) how speech therapy is used to treat ASD; (d) how OT is used to treat ASD; (e) the use of visual supports for ASD; (f) other interventions targeted at ASD that lack research support; and (g) ASD resources in San Antonio. (Prerequisite: Introduction to Autism Spectrum Disorders)

In Toilet Training Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, participants will learn various strategies to toilet train children with ASD.

This training will cover terminology related to sensory processing disorders and how these issues can affect a child in terms of behavior, cognition, language, motor skills, and social-emotional equilibrium. An estimated 70 percent of children with autism spectrum disorders have Sensory Integration Disorders.

Dr. Nhung Tran, Developmental PediatricianSleeping, eating, learning and behaving are basics in growth, but not simple in children with disabilities. Participants attending will be provided with practical interventions to address developmental issues in children with disabilities. Attendees will be provided practical interventions for sleeping and feeding disorders, strategies for addressing educational issues and help with identifying behavioral issues.

The Arc of Texas' MOVE is a grant funded by the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities to provide training and ongoing support to Mobilize and Organize self advocates, families and allies to use their Voices to Empower communities and create meaningful change.

MOVE will give self-advocates, family members and allies the skills and power to take collective action on their own behalf, win concrete improvements in their lives, and shift current relations of power.
